Good to know

Who made this, and who is it for?

Talkfirst is built by a solo developer. It started as speaking practice for one learner and is now open to more.

I don't know any grammar — is this for me?

Yes — that's exactly who it's for. You don't need grammar to start: you talk with an AI partner from day one, and vocabulary comes from your own conversations and lessons, landing in flashcards for review. If daily flashcard review feels like too much, switch to Zen mode — forgotten words come back gently instead of piling up, and new words never wait for old ones.

What AI models are used, and where is my data stored?

ElevenLabs Scribe transcribes your speech with word-level timing (that's what the pause feedback is built on) and does the text-to-speech. The conversation partner and the mistake analysis run on Claude via OpenRouter. Everything is stored on our own server in the EU — see the Privacy Policy for details.

Do I need a microphone?

Yes, for the voice features — conversation practice and pronunciation practice. They work in the Telegram bot, in the browser app, and in Claude on the web and desktop app (Claude's mobile app doesn't give widgets microphone access yet). Vocabulary, flashcards and quiz history work everywhere, without a mic.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes — as the Telegram Mini App, or as the web app in your phone's browser.

How do I cancel Pro?

In Telegram: Settings → My Stars → Subscriptions. Pro keeps working until the paid period ends.

Only English?

For now, yes — Talkfirst currently teaches English to Russian speakers. All feedback and the app itself are in Russian.
